Area of Trinity House Deep Sea Pilot License:

All North European waters North of Gibraltar with the exception of the Baltic Sea, East of the line between Skagen & Vinga. 

Brixham Boarding position:

Pilot launch will meet approximate 2nm North East of Berry Head at pilot boarding station position LAT 50.25’ Long 003.25.70’ W

Actual Position will be confirmed when contact is made via VHF.

Cherbourg Boarding position: 

2nm East of CH1 Buoy LAT: 29 43.5’ N Long 001 42.0’ W

Loaded Tankers: 7nm North of Cherbourg Breakwaters Lat 49 47.5’ N Long 001  39.0 W

The pilot is proactive in teaching & encouraging junior officers.

Taking a pilot can also act as a refresher course for Captains who haven’t recently sailed in North European Waters. 

 

IMO Recommendation – IMO A1080(28) adopted 1981 recommends the use of properly licensed deep-sea pilots in the North Sea, English Channel & Skagerrak.
